After two years of collaboration withFrench Association of Diversity Managers (AFMD), we are pleased to present this Tuesday, December 14, 2021 our Discrimination prevention kit for higher education and research. This joint project was carried out with the support of the Human Rights Defender and French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovationwith the kind participation of JuriSup.

Visit Discrimination prevention kit for the higher education sector has been created to support gender equality advisors, racism and anti-Semitism advisors, secularism advisors and anyone else wishing to get involved in preventing discrimination in higher education and research. It adopts a global approach, both in terms of the criteria addressed and the areas of action identified.

In higher education and research, discrimination has long been a subject of study for certain disciplines, such as the humanities and social sciences. On the other hand, it is only recently that we have begun to take into account situations of discrimination experienced within our establishments, and this has raised questions among those in charge of these issues. The main discrimination criteria or themes on which current policies are based are gender equality, and more specifically gender-based violence (GBV) and disability. However, the development of these policies is often carried out in "silos", without any real complementarity with other criteria or themes where the need to deal with situations and prevent discrimination is important, in particular for LGBT+ students and staff, victims of discrimination linked to origin or religious expression, and secularism.

This kit provides an initial overview of discrimination in higher education and research, gives legal guidelines for dealing with situations and suggests courses of action to prevent discrimination on a global scale, while taking into account the specific features of each criterion or theme.

It draws on the expertise of CPED, the AFMD, the Défenseur des droits and the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. It has also benefited from the contributions of the professional network of legal affairs managers in higher education, research and innovation (JuriSup), the network dedicated to disability support in higher education (APACHES) and SOS Homophobie. Finally, it was enriched by the sharing of experiences by correspondents from over twenty higher education establishments that are members of CPED.
