The CPED animated a parenthood working group from march 2025 to february 2026, gathering a fifteen or so member establishments, as well as doctoral students, researchers, and expert associations. It was created to address a need to share experiences, difficulties, but also resources on situations related to parenthood, particularly concerning the legal framework within the specific environment of higher education and research.

The CPED is pleased to share with you the “Lexique des parentalités. For a culture of equality in higher education and research”. It is the result of a year of work by the members of the “Parenting” working group. The objective of this glossary is to raise awareness about the diversity of parenting and the issues of equality and non-discrimination related to the terms and concepts that revolve around the notion of family.

The glossary is organized by main themes and describes the key terms, current legislation - specifically in higher education and research - figures and existing research for each one. It also provides expressions to ban and recommendations. The layout was done by Sophie Aumas and the illustrations by Silver, both dedicated and dynamic professionals with whom it was a pleasure to collaborate.

To complete this glossary, a practical guide for equality and diversity missions, as well as a national map of associations supporting all forms of parenthood, will be published in the coming weeks.

📢 Mark your calendars: The CPED working group is organizing a event on parenthood in the ESR at the University of Lille on Monday morning, May 4. We look forward to seeing many of you there!
