We are pleased to inform you of the publication of Companion guide for investigating within an institution: «Measuring LGBTQI+phobias in Higher Education and Research», which we invite you to consult and relay within your establishments.

This guide was produced as part of the national plan for equality, against hatred and discrimination against LGBT+ people (2023-2026), coordinated by the Interministerial Delegation for the Fight against Racism, Anti-Semitism and Anti-LGBT+ Hate, the LGBTQI+ Chair (L-ViS, Lyon 1 University) and the Permanent Conference of Missioned Officials for Equality and Diversity with the support of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and the Space.

The guide is the result of the work of a working group that brings together academic, associative and professional knowledge. Although not exhaustive, it provides Practical tools for higher education and research institutions that would like to feed their policies of equality and non-discrimination for LGBTQI+ people with a diagnosis.

The document presents the main steps of such an investigation in a practical manner, while also proposing strategic and ethical guidelines. :

  • forming alliances;
  • involve the people directly affected in the research process;
  • protect researchers and data;
  • extracting data for a stated purpose (to advance the application of rights).

The steps proposed within this guide can be adapted and changed depending on the specificities, temporalities and/or margins of maneuver of the institutions.
